EXTRAORDINARY NURSING FACULTY MEMBER RECOGNIZED AT

The Christ College of Nursing and Health Sciences

July, 2011 – A faculty member at The Christ College of Nursing and Health Science was honored with The DAISY Faculty Award at the Class of 2011 Graduation luncheon. The award is part of the DAISY Foundation's program to recognize the very important value professors and instructors of nursing play in inspiring outstanding quality and compassionate patient care in nursing students. The honoree received a certificate, a DAISY Faculty Award pin, and a beautiful sculpture called A Healer’s Touch, hand-carved by artists of the Shona Tribe in Africa.

The first DAISY Faculty Award recipient at The Christ College of Nursing and Health Sciences is Linda Pennington. Linda has been part of the nursing faculty since 2007 and inspires students in the classroom and in clinical. Her nomination, written by a student, reflects the key values and attributes of an excellent instructor. “She had high expectations and it was a challenge to meet them each week, but I learned a lot from her. Her weekly feedback gave us immediate communication of our abilities and areas of weakness. She took time out of her schedule …. Always encouraging us to be the best we could be. She encouraged team work … She may be tough, but she had high expectations and taught us how to meet those expectations.” We congratulate Linda on this prestigious award.

Nursing faculty nominated for the distinguished award was also recognized at the luncheon and received a DAISY Faculty Award Nominee pin. Nominees included: Teresa Berter, Larry Bolt, Joyce Finch, Vicki Fuller, Connie McFadden, and Tiffany Neiss.

The not-for-profit DAISY Foundation was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes.  Patrick died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little known but not uncommon auto-immune disease.  The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families. The Foundation introduced The DAISY Faculty Award in 2010 to honor what nurses describe as the “voice” in their ears throughout a nurse’s career at the bedside who guided and inspired their work.

TCCNHS Names Second President: Letter from the Board

December 10th, 2010

On behalf of the College Board of Directors, I am pleased to inform you that the Board has appointed Dr. Nathan Long as the second president of The Christ College of Nursing and Health Sciences. President Long brings to this position a wealth of diversified experience in student and academic affairs, including seven years as Academic Dean of General Education and Instructional Support Services at TCCNHS. His most recent appointment as interim president offered the College essential transitional leadership, promoting key philanthropic efforts, pursuing vital strategic initiatives, and maintaining fiscal viability while the Board completed its search process.

I want to extend the Board’s gratitude to the divisional deans, faculty, and other TCH community members who played integral roles during the interview process. We look forward with much enthusiasm as the College prepares a visionary strategic plan, establishing the College as an innovator and leader within the Greater Cincinnati higher education and health care community. Our hope and expectation is that with Nathan’s dedication and experience as well as your collective efforts we will continue building on the College’s strong foundation.

On behalf of the College Board of Directors we wish Nathan the utmost success in his new position, and extend a special thanks to his wife, Kim, and his children, Simone and Leo, for sharing Nathan with us and for their continued support.

Best wishes and may all of you have the happiest of holiday seasons.

Sincerely,

Theodore Emmerich, Chairman

The Christ College of Nursing and Health Sciences Board of Directors
