We all understand that copying another person’s speech or written materials is plagiarism, but that extends beyond simply taking someone’s words and phrases. It also includes their ideas.

So, if you read about a new concept, and you then refer to that concept in your writing, it needs to be cited. Even if the new idea is one single word, that word still needs to be quoted and attributed to the person that coined the term.

If it’s not common knowledge (known and understood by everyone, not just nursing majors), then it needs to be cited.
