Federal and State Aid Programs

The Financial Aid Office at The Christ College of Nursing and Health Sciences assists students in understanding, applying for, and processing various scholarships, loans, and grants. Resources are available to students so that they have ample methods of funding their educational goals. The staff of the Financial Aid Office looks forward to helping you make your educational dreams affordable and accessible.

Federal Grants

Like scholarship money, grant money does not have to be repaid. From your FAFSA, the financial aid office will determine your eligibility to receive federal grants.

PELL GRANT

Federal Pell Grants usually are awarded only to undergraduate students who display exceptional financial need and have not earned a bachelor’s, graduate, or professional degree. (In some cases, however, a student enrolled in a postbaccalaureate teacher certification program might receive a Federal Pell Grant.) You are not eligible to receive a Federal Pell Grant if you are incarcerated in a federal or state penal institution or are subject to an involuntary civil commitment upon completion of a period of incarceration for a forcible or nonforcible sexual offense.

FEDERAL SUPPLEMENTAL EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITY GRANT

Preference is given to those students with the highest financial need as determine by the college and the FAFSA. Students must be Pell Grant eligible in order to receive this grant. Awards are $2000 and dependent on funding levels.

FEDERAL DIRECT STUDENT LOANS

Student loans are funds that have to be paid back by the borrower. The student is responsible for repayment of the loan. Students must register for a minimum of 6 credit hours (half-time) per semester to be eligible for student loans. Repayment of student loans will begin after a six (6) month grace period when the student ceases to be enrolled at least half-time, withdraws or graduates from the College. Eligibility for student loans can be in the form of subsidized and unsubsidized loans.

Subsidized Loans are for students with demonstrated financial need, as determined by federal regulations. No interest is charged while you are in school at least half-time, during your grace period and during deferment periods.

Unsubsidized Loans are not based on financial need and interest is charged during all periods. Students have the option of paying the interest while in school or have the interest capitalized. Capitalized interest will be added on to the principal amount when the loan goes into repayment.

FEDERAL DIRECT PLUS LOANS

Direct PLUS Loans are low-interest loans available to parents of dependent students. Interest is charged during all periods.

We encourage all students and parents receiving loans at the College to explore more information on the Federal Direct Loan programs including entrance and exit counseling, repayment calculators, and your rights and responsibilities regarding loans at www.studentaid.gov. Students inquiring about your total loan history and contact information please visit the website www.nslds.ed.gov.

Note: The Christ College of Nursing and Health Sciences is not a lender or loan holder of federal student loans and any repayment information will be sent to the student by the loan agency that will service your loan during repayment.
